10 Lesser Known Cocktails You Don't Know But You Should

You Host a Pretty Good Party

But you want them to be better. Most of your friends are drinking gin and tonics, but you want to expand their horizons. 

Have no fear, History on the Rocks is here. Here are our top 10 weird cocktails you don't know but you should.


1. Americano

  • 1 oz Campari
  • 1 oz Red Vermouth

Mix ingredients directly in an old-fashioned glass over ice and stir. Add a splash of soda water and garnish with an orange slice.

2. Aviation

  • 1.5 oz Gin
  • .5 oz Maraschino Liqueur
  • .5 oz fresh lemon juice

Shake all ingredients over ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

WhiteLady3. White Lady

  • 1.25 oz Gin
  • 1 oz Triple Sec
  • .75 oz Fresh Lemon Juice

Shake all ingredients over ice and strain into a cocktail glass. 

4. Black Russian

  • 1.75 oz Vodka
  • .75 oz Coffee Liqueur

Pour ingredients into an old fashioned glass filled with ice. Stir gently. 

5. French 75

  • 1 oz Gin
  • .5 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 2 Dashes Simple Syrup
  • 2 oz Champagne

Shake all ingredients except champagne over ice. Strain into a Champagne flute. Top up with Champagne. Stir gently. 

6. Kir

  • 3 oz Dry White Wine
  • .25 oz Creme de Cassis

Pour Creme de Cassis into a wine glass and top with chilled white wine. 

7. B-52B52

  • .75 oz Kahlua
  • .75 oz Bailey's Irish Cream
  • .75 oz Grand Marnier

Layer ingredients in order into a shot glass. Flame the Grand Marnier and serve, accompanied by a straw. Be careful!

8. Kamikaze

  • 1 oz Vodka
  • 1 oz Triple Sec
  • 1 oz Fresh Lemon Juice

Shake all ingredients over ice and strain into a cocktail glass. 

9. Hemingway Special

  • 2 oz White Rum
  • 1.25 oz Grapefruit juice
  • .5 oz Maraschino Liqueur
  • .5 oz Fresh Lime juice

Shake all ingredients over ice and strain into a cocktail glass. 

10. French Martini

  • 1.5 oz Vodka
  • .5 oz Raspberry Liqueur
  • .5 oz Fresh Pineapple Juice

Stir all ingredients over ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.
